The son of Joanna Gaines is very close to his father.

Crew, the founder of Magnolia Journal’s four-year-old son, painstakingly writes a birthday card for his father Chip Gaines on an index card and explains what each letter says to his mother in a video posted to Instagram on Monday.

«I adore you, Dad. «I really love you, and I hope you want to go fishing,» he says as he «reads» with his finger across the paper. “ He does not take a breather. «I adore you, Dad, and I hope we can go fishing together someday.»

«I adore you, Dad. «I truly hope I want to go fishing with you,» he said after a brief pause. ”

«We certainly love you @chipgaines, Happy Birthday!» Joanna captioned the photo.

The 44-year-old Fixer Upper star also has sons Duke, 14, and Drake, 17, as well as daughters Emmie, 12, and Ella, 16.

In an earlier interview with PEOPLE, Joanna discussed how being «vulnerable» with her children fosters a strong bond with them.

«I always believed that as the mother, I should have the answers,» she explained. «As I’ve grown older, I’ve realized that the more humanity these kids see in me, the stronger our bond.»

«I want kids to see the ups and downs so that when they’re anxious about school or relationships, they know it’s a safe place to come to me,» she continued.

Ella’s 16th birthday was celebrated by the couple last month. They hung a «sweet sixteen» banner over the kitchen table and decorated the family’s living and dining rooms with bright balloons.

«My lovely girl turns 16. «I’m going to try not to cry like a blubbering baby when she drives away on her own tomorrow.» Joanna provided the captions for the video.
