Blake Shelton Quit ‘The Voice’ after 12 Years to Help Raise His 3 Stepsons

The country music legend Blake Shelton recently posed with his wife, Gwen Stefani, and her two youngest sons, Apollo Rossdale and Zuma Rossdale. Blake and Gwen took the two boys out to NASCAR’s Busch Light Clash at The Coliseum in Los Angeles, where the family had a blast with Jimmie Johnson.

Jimmie hosted a few friends in the Legacy Motor Club suite, which included Blake and his family. Gwen’s two boys wore matching jean jackets, and they could be seen standing with their mom, stepdad, and Jimmie, smiling broadly at the camera.

Blake never had children of his own, but after he married Gwen and assumed the role of stepdad, he realized it’s something he genuinely enjoys. The singer spoke about his experiences as a stepdad, mentioning that being in a fatherly role has taught him much about life and himself.

Blake valued his time with his stepsons so much that he gave up his career as a judge on the popular TV show “The Voice” to spend more time with the boys. He mused that he might one day regret not spending as much time as possible with his stepsons and decided to put them ahead of his career.

Apollo and Zuma Appear in Matching Looks Alongside Their Stepdad, Blake Shelton
Zuma, 14, and Apollo, 8, had their names stiched on the fronts of their matching jackets, and Apollo beamed as he held a signed miniature racing helmet. Of course, the family had to get a photo with the legendary Jimmie, and he graciously joined them as they bundled together to capture the family memory.

When Gwen and Blake first started dating, the “Don’t Speak” singer was afraid Blake might not fully commit to the relationship because of her children.

Blake’s newfound paternal instinct came after years of not having kids. The singer noted that having kids isn’t something he ever thought he would enjoy, but he instantly changed his tune once he started bonding with Gwen’s boys. Now, he’s a proud stepdad. Blake commented on fatherhood:

“It’s a different kind of self-worth. Maybe it’s the opposite of self-worth because you put yourself way down on the rung, and they move up ahead of you.”

Blake showed off his parental prowess in the snapshots the family took in the Legacy Motor Club. His stepsons smiled broadly after a day out with their mom and Blake. Gwen shares her three boys, Apollo, Zuma, and Kingston Rossdale, with her ex-husband, the Bush frontman Gavin Rossdale.

Blake Learned How to Be a Doting Stepdad from His Own Father
When Gwen and Blake first started dating, the “Don’t Speak” singer was afraid Blake might not fully commit to the relationship because of her children. Funnily enough, the opposite turned out to be true. Blake said the kids helped cement the relationship for him because he had a great role model as a father.

Growing up, Blake had a half-brother with whom he shared a mother. Blake’s own dad was more than happy to be a stepdad to his brother, which always stuck with the country star. When his parents divorced, Blake’s dad married another woman with children. Blake mentioned:

“The example that my dad set for me was that was not even a consideration. ‘You got three boys? Awesome! My dad did it. My dad raised me. I could do this.’ I didn’t know what I was signing up for, but I was all about signing up for it, and every day I’ve fallen in love with the boys as much as I do with Gwen.”

The “Happy Anywhere” singer shared that his brother never thought of his stepdad as anything except his real father. When Blake’s dad married another woman and became a stepdad to more kids, he did so happily, which showed Blake how to help raise Gwen’s kids.

The Singer Sacrificed Role in ‘The Voice’ to Raise Kids as They Became His Priority
Blake revealed he was leaving “The Voice” after the 23rd season. The singer chose to stop working so much so he could spend time with his stepkids while they’re still young. He hopes to make memories with his family and gave up making money:

“I’ve accomplished more than anything I would ever imagine and made plenty of money, but you can’t buy time back. [Family] is what I want to invest in now.”

Instead of having any regrets concerning his stepkids when he gets older, Blake chose to make them his first priority now. Blake, who once admitted he could not imagine his life without his stepchildren, also mentioned that getting close to the kids has brought him and Gwen closer, since they both know they’re doing everything they can for the boys.
